Fishing Report 11-18-2022

Trevor from our Oregon City tackle department recently ventured to Southwest Washington to catch this chrome Coho on a bead. Nice catch, Trevor!

Fishing Report:

Many coastal rivers fished well for salmon this past week, while others dropped and cleared quickly. Fisherman’s Pro, Andy Martin, reported that down on the South coast he was doing really well after that shot of rain and a spike in river levels. He and several of the guides that work with him found success on several rivers, finding limits of fresh Chinook for their clients. Backtrolling plugs worked well as did bobber fishing eggs. We are currently going through an unusual dry spell for November so many anglers are patiently waiting for more rain to bring rivers back up again.

Tributary Coho fishing in Southwest Washington is still going strong. Anglers have been finding success casting spinners, Wiggle Warts, spoons, twitching jigs, bobber fishing eggs and bobber fishing beads. Since the Cowlitz and the Lewis are both regulated by dams, flows are more consistent, and the fishing has continued to be good. The B run Coho have been in both of these rivers, as well as the Kalama River. Now, the Kalama is much lower and is in desperate need of some rain. There are fish to be had but using dark-color jigs, beads and eggs will be your best bet.

Crabbing remains really good along the Coast. In Astoria the crabbing has been particularly spectacular. Fisherman’s Pro, Bill Monroe, was just down there this week and the Crabbing was fast and furious with limits for everyone in the boat. Be sure to watch the weather and avoid being on the water on a big ebb tide.

Catch and release Sturgeon fishing is a great way to spend a day during the fall and winter. Again, these fish don’t care that it’s cold out and have no problem eating a sand shrimp, herring or smelt. Fishing the deep water in the Portland Harbor of the Willamette is a great place to locate these prehistoric dinosaurs.

Duck hunters had been enjoying the nasty weather and are again waiting for stormy conditions to come back. Look for the Duck hunting to improve once we get more wet weather.
